As a quick fix if one of you really needs it right while it is not available by the website:
At least Firefox's desktop version enables you to manually modify the color used by all websites: Settings -> General -> Manage Colors. I do not necessarily find the result beautiful, but it is a helpful fix on the odd occasion that I do write in the late evening/ night; even with some background light and night mode turned on. There also exist plug-ins that supposedly do the trick, but I have not tried any of them.

Yes please, dark mode should be really simple to implement. Im an eng and we work a lot with screens... i love your app but white screen is kiiling my eyes :(

It is deffinetly needed. The idea behind dark mode is that it reduces the light emitted by device screens while maintaining the minimum colour contrast ratios required for readability. Therefore people who choose to write in the dark will have a more pleasurable expierence. Youtube, Reddit and Goolge has and it's really handy.
